Do you have any kind of Smart Phone that might be "Docked:" ?
What version of Outlook is used ? If 2007, you want to make
sure you have the latest Service Pack applied.

Your Pst may have internal data issues. Office provides a tool to
verify a .Pst's integrity. The filename is ScanPst.Exe and does not
normally have a shortcut in the Office program folder.

What destination device are you attempting to copy the .Pst to >?
I'd also suggest you use the Mail applet in Control Panel to compress
your Pst before copying.

    Try this:
    - Click Start / Run
    - Type the following three letters: cmd
    - Click OK
    - Type this command:
    robocopy "c:\documents and Settings\xxx\" "Q:\yyy" zzz.pst
(replace xxx, yyy and zzz by the actual values)
    - Press the Enter key
    - Report what you see.
    Note also:
    * You must shut down Outlook before attempting to copy the .pst file.
    * The copy process is independent of any Service Pack that you might or
    might not have applied.
    * The copy process is insensitive to any internal corruption that you might
    have in your .pst file.
    * The copy process does not care about internal file compression, other than
possibly taking a little longer to complete.

ScanPst.Exe is found in the \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
folder.

Compression is part of the Mail applet in Control Panel. (Data Files).
Select your Pst and click Settings, you'll find a Compress button.

As others have stated these are routine maintenance operations and
may not resolve your copy issue.

How are the laptops linked when copying the/these pst file/files?

Or, are you attempting to copy to removable media like a CD/DVD, USB flash
drive, or removable hard drive? If so, which?

Are you using windows explorer to copy with? If not, what are you using?

I thought the issue wasn't "accessing" the files, it was "copying" them? And
how exactly did you try to copy the file before? Via a network link?

So, can I assume you put the "old hard drive" in an external case which has
USB connectivity? If not, clarify please.

If so, are using Outlook's import function on that laptop to connect to that
USB externally connected hard drive and access that pst file you're talking
about?

I am using a USB 2 Drive Mate, this is a device got three type of
connections, SATA and 2 type of IDE, you can connect your HD to this and
connec the device to youe PC or Laptop throught the USB, so you are able to
see the HD in your explorer. that is the way I am trying to move my PST to my
new laptop.

The issue is I am trying to copy or move the PST files from my old laptop HD
to the new laptop. my old laptop is bad and not able to boot the laptop, so I
bought another Lap top and trying to move my PST files. when I try to move
aor copy it go all the way up to 80% and then I will get an error message "
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"
